2020 has seen unprecedented challenges and all sectors and geographies have been united in an urgent call to action as we collectively addressed the health, economic, operational, and societal disruption brought about by COVID-19. While the global pandemic has brought significant disruption, it has also seen the acceleration of digital technology set to transform how business, government, and people interact forever.
Postal services have played a key role throughout the global pandemic by rapidly evolving in order to support national infrastructure, economies, and society as a whole. As well as supporting communities, they have kept businesses connected to a global supply chain and enabled businesses to reach customers no matter where they are based.
On January 19, 2021, Mastercard, with the participation of the Universal Postal Union, brought together the world's postal and innovation experts for Postal Response to a Global Pandemic, a digital workshop hosted by Dr. David Ricketts, Innovation Fellow, Technology and Entrepreneurship Center at Harvard (TECH).
This event was convened as part of the research in the Technology and Entrepreneurship Center at Harvard, and to accelerate innovation among postal services, and to explore Postal Innovation and Digital Transformation as a result of postal services’ response to COVID-19. This digital convening will brought together leading postal services from over 80 countries across the globe for a dialogue on how postal services are innovating and evolving beyond their core business and their journey through financial inclusion and digital transformation to support customers from a range of backgrounds.

The discussions were aimed at helping to share and develop best practices that allow the postal ecosystem to accelerate together through collaborative discussion which facilitates the identification of new opportunities that support a stronger future for Posts. The goal of the summit was to foster collaboration and accelerate innovation through structured dialogue, lessons by experts, and shared experience of what works, what doesn't, and what the future holds.
